Loving My Teal Blues, Mustard Yellows and Plaids in the Living Room

Sometimes all you need are a few little changes to give a space a totally different vibe. Now I have always loved blue and yellow together, and typically I think of this combo as more of a summer time color palette. But when the yellow is a mustard tone I think it is perfect for the fall. 

Recently I purchased new pillows from Home Goods along with new linen curtains I found on clearance at Pier One. The pretty texture of the curtains go perfectly with the warmth and homey feel the plaid pillows exude.

More plaid is added in the way of a throw on the love seat.

I am also crushing on the fun texture of my mustard yellow pillows.

And how could I resisted a couple of teal blue pumpkins to add to my living room's fall decor?

We are finally beginning to get some cooler air in these parts and the trees are starting to fill the countryside with it's brilliant array of fall colors.

Easy Homemade Jalapeno Pepper Jelly

If you swung by last week's Share Your Style link party, you will know that one of the features was a homemade pepper jelly from the blog Floyd Family Homestead. Well given the fact that our jalapenos have been a popp'n right out of our garden, I just had to give this recipe a whirl. 

In a word YUM!

The family review... my son loved it...wasn't quite my daughter's cup of tea...and Mr. RL and I thought it was great!

Very easy to make as well. 

First I want to warn you if you have never worked with Jalapeno peppers. They are extremely hot and the oil of the pepper is easily transferable. Make sure you have something covering your mouth so not to breathe in any of the oils and thoroughly wash your hands when done working with them. Be especially careful not to touch your eyes or lips while working with jalapeno peppers.

Ingredients:

12 jalapeno peppers ( I removed the stem, halved them, and removed some of the seeds)

2 cups cider vinegar

6 cups sugar

2 two oz pouches of liquid fruit pectin

7 eight oz prepared jelly jars

Place jalapenos and 1 cup of the cider vinegar into a food processor and puree until liquefied. Pour liquid (do not strain the liquid) into a pot along with the remaining one cup of vinegar and 6 cups of sugar. Bring to a rolling boil, the type that cannot be stirred down with a spoon. Stir frequently and allow the mixture boil for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and immediately add the liquid fruit pectin. Return to a boil for one minute stirring constantly. Immediately pour into prepared jars making sure to leave 1/4 inch head space. Wipe rim with clean and apply the lid and ring band. Wait for the lid to "ping" to know you have a successful seal. If you don't have a successful seal the jar can be refrigerated for up to 2 to 3 weeks.

The way we enjoy this jelly is by spreading it over a bagel or cracker along with some cream cheese. I also hear that it is very good when paired with peanut butter.

The weather sure is getting a bit chilly here so it's feeling more and more like fall...love it!

2016 Fall Home Tour

Good Morning and Welcome to 21 Rosemary Lane's Fall Tour 2016! I want to start by thanking our fabulous hostess, Marty from A Stroll thru Life , for putting together this amazing Fall Home Tour series, and once again inviting my little corner of the blogoshere to be part of the big event!

This year I made a few changes, or additions, to my decor in an effort to switch things ups a bit. One of my favorite purchases this season was added to our entry in the way of a darling pumpkin pillow I nabbed from Pier One.

I also picked up a few more pillows from Home Goods to add to my living room sofas. I love the cozy plaid for the autumn season.

If you are a regular reader of 21 Rosemary Lane, you may notice a slight change to our book shelves. The stencil is gone and has been replaced with some leftover bead board from last year's kitchen project.

I finished my mantel last week, however with the addition of the new pillows and a few other items, I decided to change the accent colors by swapping out the rich orange pieces and replacing them with a cool turquoise. I think the blue color is a pretty compliment to the oranges and yellows on the mantel.

Pops of yellow and orange have been added to the kitchen.

Out on the back porch the table is set for an afternoon of al

After which a relaxing afternoon of chit chat can be spent in the porch's comfy sitting area. Ahhh I can just feel that cooler Canadian air in the breeze.

Autumn Table Setting on the Back Porch

Despite today's 90 plus degree weather, I felt inspired to create an autumn tablescape on our back patio. To be honest the table setting started out in the dining room but I just wasn't feeling it, so outside it went!

My "go to" colors for fall are blue and white with pops of orange. So classic! 

For the center of the tables I filled my DIY mercury glass vase with some artificial fall sprigs and then flanked the vase on one side with 3 pillar candles in a pumpkin orange!

I know I will be much happier when this heat disappears and the cool Canadian air begins to move in. The only thing I rally don't enjoy are the days getting shorter, but soon it will be time to start "cozying up" in front of the fireplace and that is one of the things, for me at least, that certainly makes this time of the year my favorite.

Pretty Paper Pumpkin Garland

A few years ago I created from construction and printed paper, a sweetheart garland for St. Valentine's Day. Using the same idea and card-stock paper instead of the other paper types, I made a pretty pumpkin garland for my autumn mantel.

All you need is...

card-stock paper in orange-like colors (cut in 1 inch strips)

card-stock paper in green or brown colors (cut in 1/2 inch strips and 2 inches in length)

paper cutter

stapler

hole puncher

and some jute string

Take two of the cut strips and and place them together with complimentary sides facing out. Bring the four ends together and slip a green strip into the middle. Staple them all together.

Next, punch a hole in both sides of your pumpkin and thread through the jute. Tie knots on either side of the pumpkin's holes to prevent the pumpkin from sliding. 

Pretty easy right???
