From Vanity to Desk...A Teen's Work Space

Just about six years ago my sister Kim picked up this cute little vanity at a yard sale for only $5. I wasn't sure if it was going to fit in Grace's room but for a measly five bucks I thought what the heck...so she bought it.

I cleaned it up, sanded it down and repainted the vanity in a Watermelon color for Grace's "little girl" room.

Not wanting to part with the piece, I needed to give it a new look, and purpose, to go with the freshly painted bedroom of my now 14 year old daughter. First the vanity received a coat of Lagoon blue from Rustoleum and then it was paired with an old shelf which has been in my family for as long as I can remember. The shelf was painted white and sits perfectly above the computer monitor.

I was lucky enough to find this fuzzy office style chair at Home Goods to replace the vanity chair Kim had bought to go with the piece. It was just a little too small for my 5'9" and still growing daughter.

An inexpensive gooseneck lamp for task lighting was purchased at Walmart. The daisy mirrors were another Home Goods find.

The original drawer pulls are painted in a nickel and the top of the piece in a crisp white.

The perfect place for Grace to organize, study and hopefully get some straight "B's"!!!

Stay tuned for the full bedroom reveal coming soon!
In the meantime wishing you all a terrific week!

Share Your Style Link Party #102

Good evening all of you Share Your Style party-goers and welcome to our 102nd inspirational link party! This week your party host is me, Barbara from the blog 21 Rosemary Lane.

Remember when you link up to our Share Your Style party your dazzling creativity will be seen on all five of our blogs! As you may remember, last week we introduced two new co-hosts to our party, Lisa from the blog Feathering My Empty Nest and Marie-Helene from Kingsbury Brook Farm. If you haven't already, please make sure to stop on by to check out both of their beautiful blogs and say hi!

Wow last week's party had such a terrific number of wonderful links from so many talented bloggers that I was simply overwhelmed in the task of trying to pick just a few to feature. But I did manage to narrow it down to six, yes six links are being featured. So without further ado it is on to...

This week's first feature is a budget friendly laundry room refresh which comes from Kristine over at the blog The Painted Hive. In her post Kristine shared a few nothing short of superb ideas for updating her space, and did it for only $500 in just five days! Woohoo...way to go Krisitne!

You know how I love DIY projects, well Sara from Twelve on Main shared this incredible blow by blow tutorial on how to make an upholstered bench. I think it came out just darling and I may be giving her tutorial a whirl this spring as I would love to make my own benches for the table on our back porch!

The next feature is from Angie who pens a blog I have been following ever since I started blogging, Knick of Time. Angie linked up a post all about her passion for turning what she lovingly refers to as junk, into Fabulous Farmhouse decor!

The oh so talented Mary from Orphans with Makeup share with us her eye-catching antique oak Renaissance-style buffet makeover. Mary's post explains the correct way to apply whitewash to wood furniture so to create a gorgeous authentic finish. Stunning isn't it??

Another blogger I have long admired is Susie from over at the beautiful blog Worthing Court. Susie linked up her awe-inspiring after Christmas snowy winter fireplace. I love how her design is grounded with the pretty black and white from both the Nordic spheres and the pretty fabric wrapped wreath of which Susie herself created.

And finally, after you are all done with your projects and decorating, sit down and enjoy this yummy looking whole wheat smoked turkey bruschetta from the blog The Bitter Side of Sweet.

So there you have it...this weeks featured links! If you have been featured make sure to grab our cute little button to display proudly on your blog.

Note: It would be greatly appreciated if you'd kindly include a link back to Share Your Style somewhere on your blog or in the post you link up. Also be sure to visit other party goers so to make some new bloggy friends.

And now onto the P-A-R-T-Y!!!!

Lisa from Feathering My Empty Nest and Marie-Helene from Kingsbury Brook Farm are joining our team now!  Please be sure to visit their blogs when you can.  We welcome them and are excited to have them join us each week!

Features from last week's party:

Cedar Hill Farmhouse shared the home decor trends for 2017.  I love posts like this because it's fun to see what to expect in the decorating world.  I was happy to see so many trends that I follow were mentioned.  So, if you're curious, go check it out!  It's a fun post!

Bless'er House shared how to enjoy deep cleaning your house.  Hmmmmm......... anything that it will make cleaning more enjoyable is good to me! I was very interested in this one.  I do love a clean house.  She included a check list and recommended some good smelling products to use too.

The Real Thing with the Coake Family shared a delicious recipe for Parmesan and garlic roasted cauliflower.  I have actually tried this before and know it is yummy!  It's very easy too.

Ideas for a Teenage Girl's Bedroom Inspired by ~ P O T T E R Y B A R N

My beautiful daughter Grace and I spent hours on the internet, more specifically on Pinterest, looking for inspiration to redecorate a teenage girl's bedroom, and let me tell you it was exhausting!!! So much to choose from regarding gorgeous rooms, but the style that kept recurring in our search of what we liked best is that of Pottery Barn. On one hand, who doesn't like Pottery Barn? And on the other...not everyone can afford their beautiful bedding and furnishings, including us. Naturally the next best thing to do was to let PB be our inspiration. We loved the bright florals along with the clean color and lines of the furnishings,  So right at the end of August Grace picked out her bedding, and after Thanksgiving she and I painted over the old purple strips with a soothing blue color from Benjamin Moore aptly named Crystal Blue. I was so proud of Grace picking such a pretty color...she gets all kinds of kudos for the color choice!

Here is how Grace's room has been painted since she was age four...ten years ago. Gosh that went fast!

Yeah I think she was ready for a fresh updated look.
The following pics contain some ideas we would like to incorporate into Grace's new bedroom design.

I love all of the bookshelves around the bed and the idea of decorative baskets under the bed. Lord knows teen girls need lots of storage!

What got my attention in this next room is the stencil or decal work around the window. We opted on white shutters instead of any curtains or drapes, so this idea would really work great in Grace's room.

 Pottery Barn

Another Pottery Barn item we fell in love with is this adorable furry desk chair. And guess what...I found one just like it at Home Goods for only $79!!!

So away went the hot pink and distressed painted furniture, and covered all of it in a crisp white. The four poster bed was a ReStore score for only $24, the bedding is from Macy's and the faux window shutters are from Home Depot. The cute little "G" pillow was a fun find at the Christmas Tree Shop.

This is a pretty good start but we still need to finish her desk area. Since Grace is so into art, I'd like for her to create a gallery wall of her framed artwork next to the closet, which is just opposite of the foot of the bed. We did pick up some fun items to organize her desk area over the past weekend.

Hoping to wrap this project up soon so Grace can really enjoy her new space. Then it is on the much needed laundry room makeover.

Wishing you a great rest of your day and don't forget to stop by tomorrow evening for our 101st Share Your Style link party. The fun starts at 7pm EST!

Share Your Style Link Party #100

Wow.....it's our 100th "Share Your Style" party today and all of us here behind the scenes are thrilled.  We have really grown and so appreciate all who join us every week with all their inspiration and creativity.  As a token of our appreciation, we would like to have a fun,  little give-away this week,  randomly choosing a winner from all the party sign-ups this week.  It will be a surprise give-away, but I know you'll love it.   Thanks again for all of you.  Lynn, that's me, of The Vintage Nest blog, is your host this week, so I get to choose the lucky winner.  :)  Before we get the party started, I would love to share with you some of my favorites from last week.  If you were chosen, we would love for you to grab the "feature" button and share on your blog.

FEATURES

I was immediately drawn to Two Twenty One's Chocolate Bar.......such a fun feature to have for the upcoming super bowl game and you can get very fancy with it for the adults, adding different kinds of liqueurs.   So much fun!

Anita, at Cedar Hill Farmhouse, shares with us some tips on transitioning from holiday to winter decor.  I love all her ideas.  In fact, I used one of them, deciding to keep my preserved boxwood wreaths up for the winter.

Krista, of the blog, Happy Housie, did a compilation of her most favorite home make-overs this past year.  I am in love with this room.......thank you Krista for sharing

Okay.....I confess.....I am about to admit one of my obsessions.  :)  I love to watch the Bachelor, Bachelorette, and Paradise.  I can't help it....don't make fun of me.  :)  So when I saw this post by Pink Peppermint Design, I just had to re-share.   This would work just as well for a Valentine's or engagement party too. :)

~FEATURE BUTTON~

The Share Your Style team would really appreciate it if you make sure there is a link back to the party in your blog post somewhere and please visit other bloggers for new friendships and interests.

Share Your Style Link Party #99

Hello and Happy New Year to you all! Wow I just can't believe we are already at 2017 and that this is our 99th Share Your Style party!!! This week your party host is me, Barbara, from the blog 21 Rosemary Lane.

There have been a couple of changes here at SYS in the new year. We had to say goodbye to two of our party co-hosts, Deserae from Peeking thru the Sunflowers and Julie from Little Farmstead. Sad for us but exciting things on the horizon for them. So we want to say thank you Des and Julie, for all your help in co-hosting over the last year, and we wish you both all the best in 2017!

Now on to our big news...we would like to find another co-host to add to our
Share Your Style team.
Could it be you??? If you are interested in joining our team please contact one of us using the contact information on any one our blogs. Here at 21 Rosemary Lane my info is under the tab at the top titled Meet Barbara, or just click here.

OK now it is time to move on to...

The first link that caught my eye comes from Suzie over at the beautiful blog Worthing Court. It is this Classic Red Velvet Cake recipe with a cream cheese frosting. Doesn't it look simply amazing? Yeah so much for that cleansing diet I wanted to start!

Next is this stunning wreath tutorial from the blog How to Make a Burlap Wreath. The wreath is actually for Christmas, but it is so gorgeous that I would have to leave it up straight through the winter!

Pam from Everyday Living linked up an amazing tour of a ski home in Utah. It is truly breathtaking!

And finally Jenna, from the blog Wife in Progress, shared how to make your own darling weathered wood frames. I just think they are so special and I love the sweet black and white photos paired with the rustic look of the frames.

And those are this week's features! If your link was featured make sure to grab our cute little button to proudly display on your blog.

Now on to the P-A-R-T-Y!!!
