The Perfect Space ~ Grace's Teen Bedroom Reveal

Right before Christmas we began work on bringing Grace's "little girl" room up to date and giving it a look more appropriate for a teen aged young lady.

Grace selected the comforter set which is one of those "Bed in a Bag" deals we found at Macy's. From there Grace chose a paint color called Crystal Blue from Benjamin Moore and her once distressed shabby chic furniture was painted a crisp white.

A fun faux fur ottoman from Home Goods provides a good place for Grace to strum on her guitar or simply put on a pair of shoes.

On the wall above her guitar are two framed faux magazine covers I created using my favorite editing site PicMonkey!

Just above the mirror hangs a picture from an old calendar with a saying I think perfectly describes adolescence.

We decided to forego curtains and instead installed these pretty white faux wood shutters from Home Depot. They let in the perfect amount of light for any time of the day while also providing the privacy a growing girl needs.

A cute picture holder I found in a thrift shop in Bucks County Pennsylvania called Good Stuff Thriftis hung next to her window along with a much needed hook rack just below for Grace's book bag, handbags, et cetera.

The previously painted hot pink yard sale vanity now has a cool blue color to coordinate with her room. It's paired with a darling faux fur desk chair, another great buy from Home Goods.

Finally the polka dots on the fun new lamp shade from Home Goods is mimicked on the wall opposite Grace's bed. The wall dots are actually decals I purchased online from a company call WNL (Walls Need Love). Grace plans to eventually hang some of her artwork on the big empty wall.

I can't tell you how excited Gracie is about her new room. She is so thrilled in fact that I have yet to have to ask her if her room is clean and if the bed is made, and that is an amazing thing for my daughter!

Have a great day and don't forget to stop back tomorrow evening for our 104th Share Your Style Link Party!

Ideas for a Teenage Girl's Bedroom Inspired by ~ P O T T E R Y B A R N

My beautiful daughter Grace and I spent hours on the internet, more specifically on Pinterest, looking for inspiration to redecorate a teenage girl's bedroom, and let me tell you it was exhausting!!! So much to choose from regarding gorgeous rooms, but the style that kept recurring in our search of what we liked best is that of Pottery Barn. On one hand, who doesn't like Pottery Barn? And on the other...not everyone can afford their beautiful bedding and furnishings, including us. Naturally the next best thing to do was to let PB be our inspiration. We loved the bright florals along with the clean color and lines of the furnishings,  So right at the end of August Grace picked out her bedding, and after Thanksgiving she and I painted over the old purple strips with a soothing blue color from Benjamin Moore aptly named Crystal Blue. I was so proud of Grace picking such a pretty color...she gets all kinds of kudos for the color choice!

Here is how Grace's room has been painted since she was age four...ten years ago. Gosh that went fast!

Yeah I think she was ready for a fresh updated look.
The following pics contain some ideas we would like to incorporate into Grace's new bedroom design.

I love all of the bookshelves around the bed and the idea of decorative baskets under the bed. Lord knows teen girls need lots of storage!

What got my attention in this next room is the stencil or decal work around the window. We opted on white shutters instead of any curtains or drapes, so this idea would really work great in Grace's room.

 Pottery Barn

Another Pottery Barn item we fell in love with is this adorable furry desk chair. And guess what...I found one just like it at Home Goods for only $79!!!

So away went the hot pink and distressed painted furniture, and covered all of it in a crisp white. The four poster bed was a ReStore score for only $24, the bedding is from Macy's and the faux window shutters are from Home Depot. The cute little "G" pillow was a fun find at the Christmas Tree Shop.

This is a pretty good start but we still need to finish her desk area. Since Grace is so into art, I'd like for her to create a gallery wall of her framed artwork next to the closet, which is just opposite of the foot of the bed. We did pick up some fun items to organize her desk area over the past weekend.

Hoping to wrap this project up soon so Grace can really enjoy her new space. Then it is on the much needed laundry room makeover.

Wishing you a great rest of your day and don't forget to stop by tomorrow evening for our 101st Share Your Style link party. The fun starts at 7pm EST!

2016 Spring Home Tours - And Kitchen Reveal

It's here!! Finally Spring has sprung and in a big way!!! With all the warm weather we have had and the expected 70's for today, how could I not be in Spring mode? This year I also have been inspired by yellow for the spring. Not sure if it is something I have keyed into through the blogosphere or just my inner designer being pulled toward the bright sunny color, but yellow is now everywhere throughout our home!

First I want to thank one of the sweetest and most elegant ladies of blogging, my friend Marty from the wonderful blog A Stroll Thru Life for putting together this amazing 5 day 30 blog home tours.

If you are joining me from the lovely blog Monica Wants It welcome. I hope you are enjoying today's home tours. There is a lot of inspiration to be found on these tours...I know that I have been constantly blown away by all the talent!

If you are here for the first time let me tell you a little bit about myself and my style of decorating.
I am a mom raising two kids, one rambunctious 11 year old boy Michael, and a 13 year old tomboy daughter Grace. I am also the wife of one big kid and avid DIYer Mr. Rosemary Lane, not to mention a mom to our two furbabies, Moe the cat and our big giant doggie Buster. Needless to say life here on Rosemary Lane is never dull. My style is pretty much "whatever I can find cheap or free" and incorporate it with things from both mine and my husband's childhood, which brings an essence of nostalgia to our home. Nothing goes to waste and everything has a purpose, which sometimes means I can end up with quite the eclectic mix.

So without further ado...on with the tour!

First up our front entry and living room. I have played around with the entry space since we moved into our mid century cape 13 1/2 years ago. I finally found a look I liked using this second hand buffet we purchased from a neighbor who was moving out of state. The giant pitcher from Home Goods contains a bunch of lovely faux florals from Hobby Lobby. The pretty arched mirror is an inexpensive find from the Christmas Tree Shoppe last year. An old wooden shelf was placed above the mirror to display some of our favorite books.

As you will notice as the tour goes on, I am a big fan of florals, both faux and real.

I love my swan...she was actually a thrift store find! (Her sister is on the bookshelf in the living room.)

The living room features Mr. Rosemary Lane's handywork. He built the bookshelves and created a custom fireplace mantel and surround. Last fall I took the plunge and painted the red brick of the fireplace white. No regrets!

Lots of yellow adorning the surfaces in the living room. On the mantel is a ceramic deer trio I bought for my mom as a mother's day gift over 40 years ago.

The little hutch in the living room was given to me by my sweet friend Colene a couple summers ago. She acquired it from a family member but had no place for the piece in her home, so I got a lovely gift providing me with what every home needs...extra storage!

The coffee table and end tables were yard sale casualties a number of years ago. A little sanding, some paint and Minwax and I have my somewhat matched set of living room tables.

This next room is our kitchen and I am sooooo excited about sharing it with you all. The week after Thanksgiving we started work on this space to give it a much needed update look.

Here is what the kitchen looked like back in November...

...and here is how it looks now!

The hutch was a ReStore score last spring for only $40. A little black paint brought her up to the minute. I have to say that this hutch is one of my favorite furniture redoes.

Lots of yellow helps to brighten up the kitchen for Spring.

Right before Christmas we painted and added bead board to the kitchen walls. The color is Chelsea Gray by Benjamin Moore. I think it works really well with our honey colored cabinets.

Again the before...

...and after.
I love my new light fixture over the kitchen table which happens to be another ReStore score for a mere $15.

Above the back slider is a shelf Mr. Rosemary Lane fashioned a few years ago from two drapery rod holders and a 1 X 4 inch piece of pre-painted wood from Home Depot. Now the white ceramic pieces add some drama to the shelf instead of blending in like they did before. The checked curtains are new and I did go a little over budget on them paying full price over at Country Curtains. But hey a girl has got to splurge once in a while right?

The kitchen island also received a little makeover in the way of board and batten and a fresh coat of bright white paint. (I will share more of my island with you in a later post. And for those of you who know I was asking for help in choosing new pendent lights for over the island, I did make a purchase...only now I have to wait to have them installed!)

The guest bedroom was "springified" with plenty of florals and light, breezy straw hats.

The beautiful gentleman's dressers belonged to my mother-in-law when she was a little girl. It is made of poplar and mahogany with a serpentine front. According to the antique dealer who refinished this piece it dates back to the mid 1800's. On top of the dresser is a wedding picture dating back to the late 1940's of my aunt with all of her sisters, including my mother, as bridesmaids.

A splash of yellow on the dining room table completes the tour.

I am so thrilled that you stopped by for a little visit. I truly hope you will not be a stranger and drop in on me from time to time...the door is always open!
