Spring Home Tour 2017 ~ Part One

Hello and if you landed here by way of Julia's beautiful spring tour over at Cookoo4 Design welcome. But before I utter another word, I want to send out a very special thank to my friend Marty from the sensational blog A Stroll Thru Life. Marty has been putting together these home tours for a couple years now, and I know that it just has to be a lot of work on her part, so I really want to express my gratitude for Marty's tenacity in organizing and getting this fabulous spring show of 30 homes off the ground!

Part one of the tour includes the entry, dining room and our main living space aptly called the living room. I'm also going to share with you our daughter Grace's bedroom just in case you missed the reveal or are new to 21 Rosemary Lane. So without further ado, here is our home all decked out for spring!

We recently had a major mid March snowstorm here in the northeast that dumped about 10 inches of snow on the ground. (And happens to still be here!) But that's OK with me because when I walk into the entry of our home I am greeted by a huge pitcher filled with spring inspired flowers. I also fell in love with the little buggy pillow from Pier One which sits on the foyer's Antibes green chair.

Another new addition to our spring foyer, aside from the new railing going upstairs, is the cute little bunny plate I picked up at Home Goods.

Now we can move on into the dining room...

...where the dining table is filled with blue and white delf...

...with more on top of the breakfront.

The living room is really where spring has sprung with bright yellows cast about the room.

The sunny yellow paired with turquoise blue really makes this room cheerful and bright. I think the living room is now my favorite room in our entire home.

And now onto Grace's bedroom makeover. I think this room just exudes the feeling of spring with its pretty blue wall color and bright floral bedding.

And so you have our 2017 spring tour. (part one that is!) I am so thrilled you took the time to swing by for a visit. Part 2 of the tour will be the kitchen area which will be coming up in a few days. I truly hope you will plan to stop by again.

I also hope you will follow along with this week of home tours. Marty has pulled together such an amazing array of talent that there is bound to be a home or two, or three, or even 30 that will help inspire the beautiful season of spring.

Just take a look at this incredible lineup!!

Design ~ Yellow in the 21st Century

"Yellow is the brightest color of the visible spectrum, and it is the most noticeable of all colors by the human eye. It means happiness and optimism; it is the color of sun shining, or bright light and creativity. ... It is the color of high energy, enthusiasm, hope, fun, and cheerfulness."
https://www.colorpsychology.org/yellow/

Back in the late sixties and throughout the seventies, yellow seemed to be everywhere in home decor. From living rooms to kitchens to outdoor spaces, sunny yellow was seen in many room designs as both bright accents as well as a totally engulfing color scheme.

It was apparent almost everywhere you looked.
Not only in decorating magazines...

...but also in the the television shows we watched...

...as well as in the pop culture of the time.

Yellow is also Doris Day's favorite color!

Yellow was everywhere! However, and for me very sadly, in the decades to come yellow in home decor begun to be considered rather passe. Almost an "Ugh what were they thinking?" kind of distaste was adopted. The popular bright and happy color gave way to muted pastels of the eighties and nineties, and then to the jewel tones of the early part of this century. As far as I can tell, yellow never really made much of a resurgence in home decor for well over 30 years.

(Oops...sorry but it is hard for me to think 1980's without thinking Don Johnson and Miami Vice.)
So imagine my surprise when earlier this month my Country Living magazine came and this was the cover!

Woo hoo!! I was so delighted to see a return of one of my favorite colors!

Aside from the warming effects yellow has on the psyche, I think one main reason why yellow is back may be because gray is the new hot neutral in today's decor. And what perfect color to pair with it...YELLOW of course!

So this spring as in last, sunny yellow will be my color choice to sprinkle throughout our home to help celebrate and welcome the season of rebirth! I love how yellow can brighten up a space and make a room almost feel like it is smiling.

To see more yellow in our home, and see it all decked out in its "springware", make sure to stop by next Monday, March 20th as 21 Rosemary Lane helps to kick off a full week of Spring Home Tours!

Take a look at this line up!
