I just arrived home after spending the afternoon helping my sister pick out new Roman shades for her kitchen window, to find that Mr. Rosemary Lane has begun our first project of the year!!!
Yippee!!!!
I have been wanting a new mantel for our fireplace for the past 10 years, and as luck would have it, a few months ago we found this wonderful prefab mantel and facade at Home Depot. Perfect we thought, how easy can this be. The only glitch in our otherwise superb plan, was that once we got all the components home we realized that the mantel itself was not going to work.

As you can see we need blunt ends for the mantel because of the flanking bookshelves my hubby built a few years back. The prefab mantel has tapered ends. Yes we did think about cutting the prefabbed mantel to make it straight, the main problem there is that cutting it would render the mantel too short. So now Mr. RL has begun to custom build a mantel to fit between the bookshelves!
Can I tell you just how excited I am!!! I am really hoping this project will be done fairly quickly barring any unforeseen snags or stumbling blocks along the way. I will keep you posted on the mantel's progress and have a great evening!!

Oh Barbara thats going to look beautiful! I love the bookcases your hubby built too! I eventually want to have built-ins installed on the sides of our fireplace.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, your fireplace will look great when it is finished. What are you planning to do about the brick? BTW, it looks just like my home's brick, except our home was built in the early '80s when black mortar was used. Outside, thankfully, it has faded. Inside that dark mortar screamed at me. We painted and have never regretted it for a half second! Can't wait to see and hear how you like your makeover.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck,
Helen
I already can't wait to see how it turns out! I wish I had a mantle...I have one of those (horrible) corner fireplaces where you put the TV above it...which we don't. I can't wait to close up that ridiculous hole up there and install a mantle!
ReplyDeleteThat is going to look really great, Barbara. I can't wait to see it. Have a great rest of the weekend- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be perfect Barbara, hope everything goes great with the mantel...love those bookcases!
ReplyDeleteHave a great evening!
Good Morning Barbara, How exciting, a new mantlepiece and one which your husband is making for you.
ReplyDeleteWhen the mantlepiece is finished you will be arranging and re-arranging it for weeks.
Looking forward to the end result.
Have a lovely Sunday.
Best Wishes
Daphne
Good luck with your project. In my old house, no project lands up being easy.
