As you may remember, in an earlier post this month I shared with you that our first project of the year was underway. Well Mr. Rosemary Lane has been as busy as the proverbial beaver working on our new mantel. Here again is what the original looked like...
Pretty blah right?
Now a much more substantial, and 3 inches deeper, custom mantel has replaced the old one. A new wood surround has also been added as well.
Decorative molding and appliques will be attached to the new surround to add detail along with a finished look.
As of right now the plan is to paint the wood to match the flanking bookshelves, however Mr. RL is tossing around the idea of staining the wood. I'm not sure how I feel about that...I am very much a traditionalist and love the appeal of classic white paint.
This is very exciting...I've wanted a larger mantel since we moved to 21 Rosemary Lane 10 years ago, so it will be a big thrill to see the completed project!!!
Wishing you all a super start to your week!!!
XO
Oh it is so pretty. The larger mantel and the extra wood detail is definitley gorgeous. Can't wait to see it all finished. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThat made a big difference! I vote for white. :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks wonderful! I like white, too. It's so much easier to decorate. I have wood and I SO wish hubs would let me paint it!
