The Historic Clement Doyle House ~ Bucks County's Designer House Garden Tour

Today despite the dreary weather and drizzling rain, my sister Kim and myself along with our parents who are up from Florida visiting, decided to spend the afternoon taking in this year's Bucks County Designer Home and Gardens Tour. Due to the fact that there was no photography allowed inside the house, I am unable to show you some of the spectacular rooms the area designer's created. But the exterior of the home and gardens were just as stunning as the interior, and I was allowed to shoot photos of them!!! Yippee!!!

Designer House 2013 is the historic Clement Doyle House located in Doylestown Pennsylvania. According to the history records, in 1692 Edward Doyle and his wife Rebecca  moved from Ireland to Bucks County Pa. after receiving a land grant from William Penn himself.

Edward and Rebecca had two sons,Clement and Edward Jr. who also settled in the area. William Doyle, son of Edward Jr., owned a tavern in the center of town known as Doyle's Tavern. The area became known as Doyle's Town and in 1776 the spelling was changed to it's now known name of Doylestown. It was Clement Doyle who purchased 148 acres in the Pine Run Valley. The land was subsequently sold and bought with several subdivisions of the property happening over a period of years.

The history of this home actually begins in 1811 when the owner of the property at that time, John Salome, began building this beautiful stone house. In 1814 a large barn was added to the property.

The home boasts 5,000 square feet of living space with beautiful extensive gardens sitting on 9 acres of stunning real estate. Now I am going to stop giving you a history lesson and let you enjoy these fabulous gardens!

And what is a designer House without offering a wee bit 'o shoppin'!

Ooops!!! One more area I forgot to share...this beautiful outside dining area just off of the lovely morning room.

I hope you enjoyed this tour. The proceeds benefit the Doylestown Hospital and the many services they support.

Wishing you all a wonderful start to your week!

XO

  2. Good Morning Barbara, This is a beautiful house and it must have been gorgeous inside if the gardens are anything to go by.
I like the fact that the garden looks like it has been divided into rooms.... different places to sit and enjoy the view.
I really liked the small terraced area as it would be a lovely place to sit on a warm summers day.
    I really enjoyed this tour.
    Best Wishes
    Daphne

  8. Barbara, what a gorgeous home. Don't you just hate that they won't let you photograph the insides. I guess it's for their protection though. I love home tours and go on all that I can, but this is quite a tremendous one and such lovely gardens. Thank you for sharing and thanks again for your more than generous comments to me..Happy Wednesday..Judy
