I spent yesterday with Grace and my sister Kim. We had lunch and did a little shopping. You see it was a particularly difficult day for us yesterday since it marked the third anniversary of my bother-in-law, Kim's husband Charlie, losing his battle with lung cancer.
All in all it was a good day as we spent time together laughing, talking, and having Grace try on faux fur and model for us at this really posh decor store. And being true to form my sister never ceases to surprise me. On this very sad day where Kim could have stayed in bed and ignored the world, which she had every right to do, she came out and met us with such a fresh spirit and positive attitude. And knowing that I am in the throes of redecorating my dining room with blues and white and touches of silver, yesterday she gave me these.
No she didn't go out purchase them, they were actually something she happened to have in her home, and they came to her mind as we spoke the other night on the phone.
Sisters really are one of God's best creations...they know us as well and sometimes even better than we know ourselves. Words are not always needed as the bond between sisters, I think, possesses a bit of magic.
I thank our lord everyday for the great gift he has given me in the way of my sister Kim. And I know that Charlie is smiling down on both of us as our sisterhood grows even deeper.
I love you Kim and thank you for being such a special person in my life!
XO
Your Big Sister
Oh Barb, this make me cry! What a brave and beautiful sister you have!!! I have a sister too... and I am so blessed. Thanks for sharing this lovely post!
ReplyDeleteThank you Yvonne for your sweet words...we are very blessed to have beautiful sisters to lean on and share with as we journey through this life.
DeleteI am so envious, Barbara. I always wanted a sister and grew up pretty isolated from other girls my age. I only had one brother that passed away unexpectedly a few months ago. You are lucky AND blessed to have a sister- There is something about family sharing the pain of the loss of someone you love that lightens the burden somehow- Blessings-xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHow lucky you are to have a sister to share with. Your sister has been through great tragedy and still rises to up to the occasion for you. Beautiful.... I was raised in a family with two brothers, my dad, and two of his brothers. My Mom and I had to tough it out and try to hold our ground with all of the masculinity around us.
ReplyDeleteBarbara that was such an inspirational post. Sisters are really wonderful and we are blessed to have one in our lives. My sister is very special to me and someday I am going to do a tribute to her. She does deserve one. You always inspire me in on way or the other..Happy Tuesday my friend..Judy
