Mother's Day in the Vineyard ~ Alba Wine Festival

We spent yesterday afternoon with wonderful friends relaxing and sipping wine at the Alba Vineyard's wine festival. Ten dollars per adult got you through the door and another ten would give you ten tastings of an array of Jersey grown Alba wines. Actually Alba Vineyard and Winery was named as having the best wine in New Jersey for 2013.

In my opinion New Jersey wines, as most east coast wines, definitely have a notably different flavor and body than the California wines. To me the east coast wines are more tart overall. I feel that the east coast whites have far less in the way of woody undertones and that the reds are very earthy in flavor. The body of both seem to be much lighter, or less viscous. The one wine we universally liked best was Alba's Gold Medal Riesling. I suppose on a warm spring day with a pretty intense sun, the cold slightly sweet flavor of the Riesling suited our palates best.

So we sat on our blankets and in our sports chairs, drank wine, noshed on a few goodies we had brought, listened to some live music, and enjoyed the company of dear friends on a special Sunday in May known as Mother's Day.
