Ever since the Summer Tour hosted by Marty from A Stroll Thru Life last month, I have been racking my brain trying to think of great summer ideas to lighten and brighten up my guest bedroom. Actually I am leaving today for Spring Hill Florida to help my mom pack up 20 years worth of living in the sunny south, as both my parents will be up north permanently by the end of this month. My dad is flying back with me and will be with us until they make their big move to their new home the beginning of August. I wanted the guest bedroom to have a little more of a summer and coastal vibe for my dad's stay.
So as you may or may not remember, when I first decorated this room I had a slipper chair with a $3 damask slipcover I picked up from ReStore, and a sequin black pillow to dress it up. Well I decided to create a more casual look for the summer months but that little chair the way it looked just wasn't going to cut it for me.
I brought in one of the throws from the living room which has a sweater-like knit and used it as a cover for my freebie chair. The chair actually came with our cat Moe when we adopted him 2 years ago. Shhhh don't tell him. (Yes he knows he's adopted I mean about this being his chair!) It was simply laid on top of the chair where I then tucked it in where the back meets the seat and pulled the two sides from the front around to the back. A small piece of jute was slipped in between the loops of the yarn and then tied to secure. I thought the look was perfect for the feel I am shooting for in this room. It appears as if a light summer cardigan gave a big hug to my chair. The white color is exactly what I wanted and I love the added texture as well!
I moved the chair around the room to take advantage of the late afternoon sun so you could get a better look at her! Isn't she darling?
Both the throw and cute pillow are from Home Goods.
Mr. RL and I purchased the "little girl on the beach" painting at an art auction over 10 years ago. It has been in Grace's room for the past few years and still is one of my faves!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
