A Gift from Mom ~ Beautiful Edelstein Bavarian China

As you already know my parents made the big move last week from their much loved home in sunny Florida to the beautiful state of Pennsylvania. And with this massive transition came a lot of downsizing. When my parents first wed almost 59 years ago, my mother bought this gorgeous set of china which I remember always making its way onto the table for family gatherings like Thanksgiving and Christmas eve. When they moved from Pennsylvania it got boxed up and shipped to Florida and has not seen the light of day since. So for 20 years it sat in two rather large boxes on the closet floor in the guest bedroom.

Since I am such a sucker for pretty plates (especially ones in blue and white), not to mention how sentimental I can be about certain things I remember from my childhood, when my mother offered me this set I totally jumped, no pounced on the chance of owning it!

From what I could find out via the Internet there is no huge monetary value with regard to this set. Mostly because there is a large inventory of  60 to 70 year old china flooding the market as baby boomers clear out their parents estates.

This particular set is called Empire Blue and was manufactured in Germany. It is a service for 12 and includes a gravy boat, square vegetable dish, teapot with creamer and sugar bowl, and a covered casserole dish.

I love how every piece is trimmed out in silver.

So what in what am I displaying this fabulous Bavarian china you may ask?

Another amazing score from ReStore! I purchased this piece for our kitchen a few months ago and only paid $40. It actually has glass doors for the middle which are obviously off, and two chicken wire doors flanking that I have opened. My plan is to paint her but I wanted to wait until I decided what to display on her shelves.
Now I know!

Wishing you all a wonderful day and remember this evening at 7pm the 25th Share Your Style goes live! There will be loads of inspiration to be found, so please stop on by to party with us!

  13. Beautiful! I'm just getting ready to display my mom's Bavaria set. Is there a trick for setting up the plates so they don't slip/fall over?
