Just because it is winter time doesn't necessarily mean there has to be an absence of color. Now I love winter white just as much as the next blogger, but for me color has always been such a mood elevator that it is really hard for me to omit it from my home's decor.
Color is added to our main living space in the way of teal, navy blue and pops of a marigold yellow.
In keeping the winter theme, on the mirror above the mantel is a pine cone evergreen inspired wreath.
With more pine cones in a pasta bowl on the coffee table.
The kitchen's neutral gray palette is the perfect back drop for punches of red.
I simply kept a few of the Christmas/Winter items around the kitchen for interest and color.
The white wood tree was a Christmas clearance item I picked up for $11 and the little snowbird was a gift from a dear friend.
My new favorite item in the kitchen is my "Rodney the Pig" lamp from Pier One Imports. Rodney is sitting on top of the cabinet I found last winter and refinished for our back patio as a beverage cabinet. However with the cold winter weather I didn't want to leave it out there so in it came and found a new home in the kitchen. The opening above the cabinet doors makes for a great space to store our kitchen table place mats.
I think Rodney with his checked shade and curly-Q tails finial adds a bit of whimsy to the kitchen.
How about you...do you use color in your winter decorating or are you a true white purist?
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
XO

I like to warm things up in the winter, too, and while I do a lot of neutrals I add lots of texture and a bit of pattern. I love what you have done and that piece you were using on the porch works great inside, too.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend- xo Diana
Everything is so pretty. I LOVE that pig lamp, how cute is that.
ReplyDeleteYour winter touches are so warm and the colors are wonderful. Love the wreath over the fireplace

I love color and have it in every room. It makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteLove the Pig Lamp - I have two rooster lamps and I love them.
Your home is so lovely and warm.
Have a great week.

Hi Barbara. I always admire all the white seen around but I just can't get into that mode. Color is, and always will be part of what I like, and a touch of white just sets it all off. Love, love, little Rodney. A small lamp set in a place where you wouldn't always expect one, really is warming and special. All your colors look sparkly and beautiful and make for a much needed respite from the winter blahs. I woke up to sunshine this morning!! Talk about magnificent color..Happy Valentine's Day. xxo Judy
ReplyDeleteI love all of your colour! I'm like you, I have to have colour around me, it really is a mood elevator. I like all the photos of farmhouse decor that is out there, but I have noticed that it is absent of colour and I just don't enjoy that. I have lots of colour, well done, I think, because I need it.
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of your home!
I agree, Barbara. I have to have color, also. Too much white doesn't work for me. Love your beautiful home!
ReplyDeleteI love color...and I need color. And for the winter when things are gloomy outside I think color is even more important for me. Probably for others too. :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely home!! Beautiful aqua glass vase on the floor, too. I just put away "winter" and brought out some spring - with hopes that it arrives soon. We have had 100" snow already and i am so ready for spring!!
