A New Look for a Roadside Find

It has been a wee bit busy around these parts over the past week. Our kids are now out of school for their spring break and then of course we celebrated the very blessed Resurrection of our Lord on Sunday. I have also been working diligently on our Home Office reorganization and makeover.

This has been my project for the past few days.
(This piece has been sitting in our garage until last week when I decided to use it to hold the office printer.)

One Sunday a couple years ago, I was on my way home from church and this little baby was just sitting out by the side of the road.

At first inspection she seemed to be solid wood...

and as you can see she is also pretty beat up.

I thought this would be a great fit for our home office given her Mission style lines and size.

So I went ahead and started doing a little sanding, and as I sanded I realized that I was right, she is all wood.

Then I did a little painting and staining. I actually found a chalk paint over at my local Walmart for only $7.99 so to save some time in prepping this piece, I decided to give I it a try.

To be honest I really liked the chalk paint itself but didn't care for color of the white wax. It was kind of yellowish to me, so instead I applied a clear polyurethane to both the stained top and the painted body. I wanted to keep the original hardware because I really like its look and I also opted out of distressing the piece.

And I am stoked about the way she looks now!!!

Today we are taking the kids down to Washington DC. We're hoping to catch some of thoses magnificent cherry blossoms. Hope you all are enjoying this beautiful spring week.

Also don't forget to stop by this evening for our 8th

Share Your Style Link Party #7

Welcome back to week number 7 of the Share Your Style party! Can I tell you how happy I am that you are here to join in on all the creativity. Spring is starting to be sprung and I have been really enjoying the milder temperatures of this past week. Also I've been busying myself wrapping up some of my indoor projects so I can get outside and attend to some much needed post winter clean up. So before we get to this week's party, let me recap with you what I posted since SYS #6!

Work is continuing on our home office update and last week I revealed to you my revamped Mid-Century Chandy.

I also shared some ideas for easy spring entertaining by creating a Cheese Pairing spread using delicious Boursin cheeses.

And finally for the kiddies I made some Cottontail Cake Balls .

And now for this week's host who happes to have her own introduction already prepared for you!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's time for another Share Your Style party!!!  A big thank you goes out to each and every one of you who have joined in so far.  Each week one of your hosts will take a turn choosing the features, and then ALL EIGHT of us will share them on our blogs for tons of exposure.
THIS WEEK'S HOST:
Amanda from Dixie Delights!!
"I’m a so-Southern girl that's spent her whole life living in the South. I love fabulous home decor, everything Lilly Pulitzer, the ballet, Coca-Cola, reading, anything Southern, smocked outfits and knee socks on boys, grits, throwing parties, cooking, the beach, red apple martinis and, most of all, my family.  I’d be *delighted* to have y’all join in on the adventure through my blog!”
AMANDA’S FEATURED LINKS:
Karri at Blue Ribbon Kitchen shared these absolutely darling bunny sack races just in time for Easter!  I wish Mother were in town to help me pull these off.
The Joyful Home shared her Easter and Spring décor.  I’ve been a long admirer of her style and particularly love her linen bunny DIY.  While you’re over on her blog, also check out her ideas on teaching kids about Easter.  A topic near and dear to my heart.
Adorable Cottontail Cake Balls
 Last year I pinned this tutorial to my Springspiration Pinterest board because I thought it was the most darling idea. I just never attempted it because I was a little leery about making the cake balls. (Something I am not that familiar with.) However when I came across a box of make-your-own key lime cheesecake pops at my local supermarket, I knew I was going to have to give this one a whirl!
They are actually pretty easy to make using the cake mix. You just follow the instructions on the back of the box and make your cake balls. Pop them in the freezer as instructed and then you can go on and make the little tails.
To do this microwave some the the white candy that comes with the mix just til soft, about 30 seconds. Taking a toothpick, spear a marshmallow and dip it into the soft candy and then roll the candy covered marshmallow in the little white sprinkles. I poked the toothpick into a piece of fruit for drying.
Next you can add some green food dye to the coconut and toss until the coconut turns green. Set aside. Melt more of the candy and at this point your cake balls should be ready for dipping. Using one of the sticks in the kit, spear a cake ball and then either dip it into or spread on it with a spoon, the soft candy and then let dry on a piece of wax paper. It only takes a few minutes for the candy to harden onto the cake ball.
Once the candy is hard, you can take one of your pre-made bunny tails, dip it into some of the candy and then "glue" it on to the top of the pop. Roll out two mini marshmallows for each bunny bottom and then again "glue" it just beneath the bunny tail with more of the soft candy. Take your icing in a tube and then make 4 dollops on the marshmallow to create the bunny's pads. Fill your cupcake wrappers with the green coconut and then spread a little more of the candy onto the opposite end of your bunny pop and place it in the wrapper.
And that it it! You now have one dozen little bunny bottoms sticking up at you!
Hope the week is going swimmingly for you all, and remember to stop back this evening at 7pm EST/6 central for another
Share Your Style Link party!
