Well the weather today has been kind of stinky so I decided to clean out and rearrange the breakfront in my dining room. Over the years it has kind of become a "catch all" for everything we weren't sure where to put, and as a result it is really has begun to look junky!
As you can see I have everything in there from kid's artwork to an old Easter egg and Santa Clause. And the fact that it has a mirrored back only makes it look much worse! So I emptied the whole thing out, took the opportunity to wipe it all down, and then had to decided what look to go for with the rearrangement.
I bought a new tea cup and saucer when I was at the Brimfield show last weekend and that inspired me to get the rest of my tea cup and saucer collection out of the attic and display them in my dining room.
I actually do use these cups on special occasion like Christmas breakfast or an impromptu tea party with Grace.
Then I looked around to see if I had a collection of anything else...and you know what...I did. I have this lovely white stoneware in assorted pieces I have gotten as gifts over the years from my husband's family, and until now I had them all in my kitchen
So I pulled them out and paired the white stoneware with a few silver pieces I had. The milky white of the stoneware is a great contrast to the silver items.
After I shot the above photo I thought that maybe switching the round and square bowls would work better since the small plant is taller and would look better in front of the larger bowl. I also chose to slightly overlap the two bowls to add interest.
So I simply sprinkled the stoneware around the breakfront. The larger pieces actually acted like a rest stop for the eye, much like the negative space did in my bookshelf rearrangement.
A big improvement...now I just need to figure out what to do with all the extra stuff I edited out. Santa I suppose that you will just have to wait until Christmas before you see the light of another day!!!
