Changing a Picture Frame...Cheap!

When I was up in Brimfield two weekends ago I purchased this framed 1905 photo of the Flatiron building in New York City for only $8.00. I loved the photo but hated the gold speckled frame around it. I knew I did not want to go through the expense of re-framing the picture....

...so taped off the glass and spray painted the frame a black satin.

I covered the picture with bubble wrap to protect the glass. A little paint did bleed onto the glass, so I used everyday nail polish remover and a paper towel to clean off the unwanted paint.

The Result...

Now the picture stands out more against the gold color walls of my room and the black also seems to make the picture itself appear more substantial and significant.

The Flatiron building is located at 175 Fifth Avenue in the bourough of Manhatten. Its construction was completed in 1902 and is considered to be a groundbreaking skyscraper boasting a whopping 22 floors!
