"Tween" Dream Bedroom ~ Grace's Space

When Grace was about to turn 5 years old we decided to move her out of the nursery she shared with Michael and give her her very own big girl room. Grace's favorite colors...you guessed them...pink and purple. But now that Gracie is an official "Tween" her room needed to be brought up to speed. So with a few changes to bedding and the addition of a watermelon pink vanity and new accessories, she now has a bedroom fit for a "tween" princess.

All the furniture in the room once had life long before they became part of Grace's girly space. The dresser, night stand and wall shelf all came from my parents and were some of their first purchases as newlyweds some 56 years ago.

The watermelon pink vanity was a yard sale find by my sister Kim. She paid only $5.00 for it and now it is one of my favorite pieces in Grace's bedroom.

To see the original yucky light pink and spider webbed vanity just click here.

The nightstand above and the dresser were part of the same set...I just lightly sanded down the pieces and applied paint and stain and distressed them. Pretty glass drawer pulls and handles were added to give both pieces a shabby chic look. To see what they looked like before follow this link. Then I found the most darling chandelier lamps in a blue faux crystal over at TJ Maxx.

Finally this chartreuse swivel chair was a perfect find at Restore for only $35.00.

I painted the walls in two tone purple and then the ceiling got a nice coat of pretty pink. (The stripping of the walls was a tedious task, taking 5 days to complete, but well worth it don't you think?) I also brought the ceiling line down to meet the tops of both the window and door frames. Mr. Rosemary Lane finished off the color break with a piece of thin molding.

And how can a tween have a bedroom without a poster of Justin Bieber?

And that is Gracie's Dream Room!
(Brought to you on one very thin dime.)

Wishing you  a wonderful day!!

  10. Barbara: You did a fantastic job on Grace's room transformation. It is so pretty. I bet she just loves it. I was going to ask how come you got off so lucky without having posters on the walls, until I got to JB. I can remember it so well, all my beautiful work and dreams gone down the tube with the addition of posters!!! But, I have to say it looks so tastefully done!! I'm kidding, it is their room, after all!!..Happy Wednesday..Judy
