January and the Changes Ahead

First off let me say Happy New Year and I truly hope that 2015 proves to be a rock star year for all of us!

And wheeeeew weeee, it has been a worldwind in these parts over the past two weeks with the holidays, out-of -town company, and a trip into New York City with Mr. Rosemary Lane and the little Rosemaryettes. Then this past weekend I was down at the Jersey shore for a well needed Girl's Weekend complete with outlet shopping, pedicures and a few dirty martinis!

But now I am back settling into the winter months. The first thing that happened this week was the Christmas tree came down. To me at least, the room feels undecorated after all of the holiday decor goes back up to the attic, so I try to spruce up the joint a little.

I kept a few seasonal items in the room but for the most part we are back to normal.

And today we are getting some of the pretty white stuff...not much but just enough to remind us that old man winter is here to stay!

One of the first furniture projects of 2015 will be to paint the old piano that was left with the house. Yup that's right, it has been here for 12 years and I am only guessing that she probably moved in some 42 year ago with the original owners.

I am thinking about going with a black satin on the old clavichord! It will be a nice contrast to those mercury glass lamps I have sitting on top of her.

Our kitty cat Moe started using the needle point seat as his scratching post, so in addition to painting I will also be recovering the piano bench.

Next I plan to repaint the entry changing it from Ben Moore's Philadelphia Cream to a tan color.

The room that caught my eye and gave me the idea to go with a neutral is the hallway and stairwell Centsational Girl Kate has in her home.

I am digging those beautiful black and white family photos going up the stairs as well.

As far as room makeovers for the year, our office space is one that truly needs to be addressed. It is cluttered and very disorganized, and since Mr. RL works from home two days a week, he really  needs a place that is neat and functional.

So that is my plan for January. I am hoping to plow through it pretty fast so I can get started on my St. Valentine's day crafts and decor. Gosh before you know it we will be in to March!
My my how the time does fly by.

Hope you are all enjoying a great start to your week as well as to the new year!!!

Have a good one!

XO

  1. Barbara, I think the piano will be pretty black. Do you have to paint all the insides too? You sound like you have many and great plans for the year ahead. I do, but, I hope I can think one thing at a time and finish that. I do tend to become scattered!. Do you watch Fixer Upper on HGTV. Their new season starts tonight and I love her style. I'm hoping to get some new ideas..Happy Tuesday..Judy

  3. I still love your photo wall that surrounds the piano. Can't wait to see the piano after it's painted. I totally need to organize my office, too. Hope your projects go well. Here's looking forward to seeing the results.
