Well one thing a girl can do is to spray them with regular old white vinegar.
That's right!!! Vinegar is a natural born weed killer due to the acetic acid it contains. Most culinary vinegars are distilled with a 5% acidity, which is enough acidity to will kill those nasty weeds.
It is best used in areas like walkways where weeds push through, places where your lawn and other landscaping plants are not in danger of being affected by the vinegar.
Apply when you know you have a stretch of dry weather, rain will just wash your vinegar away. You may need to make a few applications due to the lower acidity in everyday vinegar, although you can purchase vinegar with a higher acetic acid at some farmer's markets and restaurant supply businesses.
How it works...
When the sun hits the acid on the weed the killing process begins. So you must make sure you coat the unwanted foliage completely.
And to be honest, I weeded out all the grass growing in between the old pavers of my front pathway and then sprayed those areas with plain white vinegar. I did this about 3 weeks ago and despite all the rain we've had over the past week or so, the weeds have not grown back!
The best part about using vinegar as a weed killer, aside from the fact that there are no chemicals involved, is the price...vinegar is super cheap! Just clean and fill an old spray bottle with every day white vinegar and you are good to go!
I even made this cute label for my bottle that you are very welcome to upload and print out. It measures about 5 1/3 inches long by 2 3/4 inches wide.
You should be able to just click on the image to get the full size and then upload it to your computer. I printed the label out on regular photo paper, trimmed it down and glued it to my bottle.
