Updating an Outdated Chandelier for the Home Office

Last summer my dear friend Donna handed me a box and asked me if I was at all interested its contents. I opened it up and there was this brassy metal chandelier form with a stack of glass panels all taped together with some blue painter's tape. Not ever wanting to pass anything up that is free, I said sure, brought it home and promptly put it in the garage not giving it another thought.

Then about 10 days ago I was rooting through the garage in search of a few boxes to use to corral some of the kids old books, and I came across the little forgotten box. So I took the chandelier out and was this close to tossing it when the thought struck me to possibly paint it and somehow update the chandy's look for our home office. At the time we had this hideous over sized ceiling fan with those ugly bell shaped lights as the office ceiling fixture, and to be honest I have always hated it. Mr. Rosemary Lane was hesitant to get rid of it because he likes the idea of a wall switch to turn on the ceiling light. What I wanted was something a little less bulky (and ugly).

So I cleaned up the brass, and then at the suggestion of my other sweet friend Colene, gave it two coats of a bright red paint using Krylon's Super Maxx Gloss spray paint. After it was completely dry, which took a little longer than regular spray paint usually does, I cleaned up the glass panels, put them back on the chandelier, and then went ahead and made little bows to place just in front of each panel. I found the darling Buffalo check ribbon at  Michael's Craft store for just a few dollars.

Then last night we hung the new chandelier.

And it is perfect!

Thank you so much for stopping by today, I always appreciate your visits.

Wishing you all a super spring weekend and a very blessed Palm Sunday!

Kitchen Update ~ The Reveal

I was so inspired by the nostalgia in the kitchen of my good friend Judy from over at the blog Gold Country Cottage, that I decided to breath new life into my own ho hum kitchen by giving it an infusion of fresh fabric in a classic pattern, and grounding it with a few new beautiful black and white accents.

After all, the kitchen is the heart of our home!

My first decision was to purchase new valances and drapes from Country Curtains in a bold black and white buffalo check. I just love the classic look of the large check and originally I was thinking red and white...but after a little more thought I felt that the black and white check was a better fit for what was already in the kitchen. And that decision set the tone for my space as I found the most darling black and white rooster dishes at Home Goods. Handsome Mr. Rooster is from my new favorite store Hobby Lobby and the white canister set was a fabulous find at ReStore for only $12.

I really wanted a bit of a farmhouse vibe, so I picked up a couple farm baskets over at Home Goods for $10 each and filled them with seasonal squashes and fruits. Another thing I did was to strip the table top and give it a darker more rustic finish. To see what the top looked like before and check out my "Rustic Roo" tablescape just click here.

The burlap wreath was moved from the front door to the kitchen.

The buffet received a seasonal update by adding a few Halloween touches. To see how the decorative B&W pumpkin Mr. Crow is perched on was created, click here.

If the chandy looks hauntingly familiar to you it should...my sister and I have the same fixture...oh yes and my parents in Florida have it as well in their kitchen! The funny thing is that my daughter Grace picked it out for my kitchen when she was just 3 years old. Ahhh a budding designer and/or possible trendsetter???

  And that's the nickel tour!

I hope you enjoyed it and perhaps the tour has provided you a few ideas...I know my wheels are always turning whenever I check out a room or house tour. Don't you just love peeking inside the homes of others...legally that is.

Hope you are enjoying a wonderful day and have a great weekend!

A Few New Items for My Kitchen ~ Black and White Buffalo Check

As you may remember, earlier this month I wrote a post all about fabulous red and white buffalo check in the kitchen. Well I did go to Country Curtains to purchase the drapes and valances I had shown you in the post.

While I is was in the store I noticed the black and white buffalo check and really liked it, but I had the red and white in my head so that is what I ended up buying. Once home I realized that I was totally wrong about the red and the black would be a much better fit for my kitchen. So yesterday I went back to Country Curtains to exchange the red for the black check.

And I LOVE THEM!!!

After exchanging the curtains and valances I went across the street to the Home Goods store, and as luck would have it, I found these pretty black and white dishes. Aren't they adorable? They even have my much loved rooster on them...how perfect...they were just screaming my name!!!

Then I spied this darling black farm basket which I simply could not resist!

So I managed to get one of the valances up in my kitchen...this style is called an Austrian valance.

I can't wait to get the new rod for the drapes so I can hang them. I want a thick black rod and finials to thread the drapes through. These drapes will frame out the sliders to the back patio. I also plan to recover the seats of the kitchen chairs and refinish the table top just to freshen up the space a little bit. Hopefully I can get to that this weekend!

Speaking of the weekend, I wish you all a wonderful one!!!
