Finally the day has come for my guest bedroom reveal. This room was once the playground for these two hardened yet irresistible room crashers.
Yes it is hard to believe that almost 9 years has passed since Michael and Grace took over the large bedroom on the first floor as their coveted playroom. And after all those years of use and abuse this was the final look they achieved in the space.
So much to show for such little time don't ya think?
Through the years I learned to just close the door and adopted an "If I don't look it doesn't exist" attitude with regard to the playroom. But then a couple months ago something in my head just snapped and I made the decision to "take back" this rather large room and reclaim it as the new guest bedroom.
So I began to work day and night, repairing drywall, caulking the window and door casings, moving furniture and painting the entire room.
The hours were long and the work was intense, but in the end my efforts did payoff and the once run down and filthy room had been transformed into a beautiful, spacious and totally calming retreat for the future guests of 21 Rosemary Lane.
Lucky for me my dear friend Donna just purchased a cozy little cottage down at the Jersey shore and the previous owners left behind a ton of furniture including these two headboards, of which Donna was happy to have me take off her hands. I painted the main frame of the headboard black and then stripped and stained the finials to match the room's dresser.

With the exception of the decorative pillows and colorful shams which I bought at TJ Maxx, the rest of the linens were purchased from the Better Homes and Gardens collection at Walmart.
Oh yeah the throws on the beds were a Home Goods clearance score.
Mr. Rosemary Lane and myself lucked out one day and found this beat up old trunk lying by the side of the road with a "free" sign taped to it. It now is a foot locker at the end of one of the twins.
Sometimes old items can feel like new when moved to another room. This was the case for our 12 year old living room area carpet. I just moved it into the bedroom and the carpet took on a whole new vibe.
The chair in the corner also found a new home in the guest bedroom. It was once in our master upstairs but got displaced when I redecorated the room back in the spring. This poor room-less chair fit perfectly into the style of this space and even got a new "His and Hers" matching pillow to boot!
The drapes in the room are nothing more than painters drop cloths with drapery rings hooked onto them. They were only around $10 a panel, this was huge in keeping the cost of new window treatments down.
I was able to save a few more pennies by refinishing a dresser and mirror I bought 3 years ago at a yard sale for $60. To see the "before" just click here.
The top of the dresser as well as the wall behind it are adorned with old family photos dating back to the 1940's.
In addition to the photos and flower in a glass bowl, I also added an antique camera Mr. RL and I picked up in a thrift shop years ago, b.k. (before kids)
And remember that old chair that came with the cat?
It received a makeover in the way of a new chair cover from ReStore for only $3, and a sparkly little black pillow to glam it up!
My goal as far as decor in the room was to give a bit of a nod to the mid twentieth century by incorporating the vintage color scheme of mint green and red along with old black and white photos as the room's artwork. A tropical feel was infused by using bamboo throughout the room while a touch of drama was created with the strong color of black furnishings accented by glamorous gold!
And now I am HAPPY!
