You know for some reason I have always been drawn to Buffalo Check. Not sure why...maybe because I was born in the early 1960's, and not that I knew anything about decorating as a small child, but I suppose it is what I had seen in magazines, on television as well as in the homes I remember from my childhood days.
One of the biggest influences and possible reason why buffalo check appeals to me is that I've always loved the Walton's ginormous kitchen, with the green and white check print on the family table and as a well as the idea of a curtain below the sink. And after taking my friend Judy' s kitchen tour over at her most charming blog Gold Country Cottage...
well I am more convinced then ever that I want to pursue a much more nostalgic homey feel of the wonderful days gone by for my own kitchen. (To take Judy's tour just click here.)
So for my kitchen and some of the colors already in the space, I think that beautiful red and white buffalo check is the way to achieve this look and feel. Our kitchen is the heart of our home and while there are some lovely modern amenities, I long for the feel of a kitchen that just speaks to me as to say...this is home!

And how about this beautiful kitchen with the buffalo check on the chairs from the blog Vignette Design?
I am currently envisioning these panels from Country Curtains for my back sliders out to our screened in porch.
And this valance for over my two kitchen windows.
Then I'd like to repaint my kitchen table and chairs in an antique white and change out the fabric on the seat cushions to either a coordinating print, or possibly just add a little more buffalo check to them. This of course is all subject to change...it is a gal's prerogative anyway isn't it?
Oh and don't tell Mr. Rosemary Lane, but if I have enough fabric left over I just may remove the doors on the cabinet below the sink and replace it with a curtain!
Whattayall think?
Have a great day!!!

Years ago I was on a home and garden tour and there was a kitchen done in red and white buffalo checks and a floral that co-ordinated. That kitchen has stuck in my mind all these years as one of the prettiest I ever saw. I love all of your ideas- right down to the gathered fabric under the kitchen sink- shhhhhh....hubby needn't know- xo Diana

Hi Barbara, I'm loving it all, too. And kicking myself for returning the ones, that I now wish I'd kept. Hope you show us how lovely they look...you are doing this, right? :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Helen #96 on Ivy and Elephants party.
Hi Barbara: First let me thank you for the very kind shout out then may I say that everything you show is way better than mine (although I do love mine) but those big buffalo checks are the best. You will have the cutest kitchen around and I won't say a word to Mr. Rosemary Lane if you don't say anything to the Captain. I've already got new ideas in my head!! Oh, Please Help Me!!..Happy Tuesday..Judy
