Gotta Love Yellow in the Kitchen

Yellow Yellow Yellow! 

I love yellow!

This bright and sunny color is the first color of spring as the daffodils have already started pushing up through the ground and forsythias are almost ready to bloom. As you know we are making a few changes in the look of our kitchen. Last year right before Christmas, Mr. Rosemary Lane added bead board to the lower portion of our walls which were then painted white. To compliment our honey toned cabinetry the upper portion of the walls are painted in a pretty gray color from Benjamin Moore called Chelsea Gray. In an effort to lighten up the kitchen for the warmer months I decided to add pops of yellow in the way of window treatments, flowers and table runner.

The sweet white and gold check valances are from Country Curtains. The print is called Woodbury Check and I decided on a simple tailored style for the kitchen.

A relatively new collection of white glass and ceramic pieces were added to the shelf above the black sliders. (Of which in my perfect dream world instead of sliders there would be two gorgeous window pane French doors swinging out to the back porch area.) I found most of the pieces at thrift shops, Michael's and Home Goods. I really love the bold contrast between the gray walls and white vases, pitchers, teapots and gravy boats.

Even the chair seats received new fabric to replace the rather dingy looking material I put on them 3 years ago.

The table runner is from Home Goods. I love the way it pulls together the yellow/gold of the curtains along with the gray wall color and seat fabric.

Finally a rustic metal pot I picked up for $1 from Restore serves as the perfect vessel to hold some pretty yellow and white faux tulips to adorn the kitchen table.

Currently Mr. Rosemary Lane is working on adding board and batten to our kitchen island. Will update you on that later. And I did make a final decision as far as which light fixture to go with over that kitchen island, so stay tuned for that post as well. In the meantime enjoy this final week of winter as we get ready to say..

Master Bedroom Reveal

After over 2 full months of planning, searching, buying, returning and well you know how it goes with redecorating, the moment has finally arrived for my long awaited master bedroom reveal.

But first here are a few pics of the room before...

It really was quite dreary. We had a leak in the roof above our bedroom and the ceiling got water stained pretty badly, it even ran down the wall leaving drip marks. Buster, the giant dog, would sleep on the right side in the narrow space between the wall and the bed next to his master, Mr. Rosemary Lane, and would manage to get big dirty paw marks all over the lower part of the wall.

 Yuck!

And that comforter...it owes me nothing! I paid full price for the thing when I bought it back in 1993 and have used it every winter since then. I'd say I got my money's worth out of good old Ralph Lauren.

My furniture is old as well...we're talking 1987 old...but I've always loved the 4 poster bed in the pretty cherry wood. 

So it was truly time for a change...in a really BIG way!

If you remember I was inspired by a gorgeous Florida bedroom which appeared in 

HouseBeautiful.

  I only had two photos to go on and then had to find someway to fill in all the blanks. But I simply fell in love with the paint color  New Leaf  by C2 Paint, and the pretty pops of orange on the headboard and floor, and just swooned over the way the dark wood of the chest of drawers looked against the pretty green walls. I also like the fact that it is somewhat feminine but not too much over the top.

So I went for it!!! 

Here is my interpretation of this garden inspired bedroom. 

Instead of orange on the floor I found a quilt with the same beautiful color in a pretty print. It was a Home Goods find at only $30!

For Mr. Rosemary Lane's side I pulled from the garage a $15 yard sale dressing table and cleaned it up by refinishing the top and wiping it down with some Old English. Now it doubles as both a desk and a nightstand. 

The pictures above the desk and on the other side above the night table are really old too...about 25 or 26 years old. I found new frames on the clearance rack at Michael's last week for just $10 a piece. They were the perfect fit for my garden themed room.!

 A few years ago I picked up the lamp on the desk from the clearance shelf at my local Walmart. It was originally gold so  I simply sprayed on a couple coats of white paint in a glossy finish to get this fresh clean look.

I decided to move out my traditional nightstand and do something less contrived in its place. This table was a roadside find, I just painted the bottom and left the top as is. Then a vintage suitcase was placed on top if the table to give the table more height. 

A clock was added plus a few family photos. 

The area carpet was my big splurge...it was a good amount over what I planned to spend but still a great deal at 50% off the original price of $800. Half your foot disappears when you step onto the carpet. 

Remember the horse picture above the bed in the House Beautiful room? Well I found this ceramic horse head for only $10! 

Both the carpet and the horse are from my favorite place to shop...Home Goods!

The curtains are from Country Curtains in what they call a rose Jacobean print. It is extremely close to the color and pattern on the headboard of the HB room. I also lucked out by hitting a valance sale Country Curtains had a couple months ago and got 20% off the retail price.

The chair originally lived in Grace's room and was, for the most part, covered with clothing all the time.

 So I reclaimed my $40 ReStore chair and paired it with another roadside find table for my new reading nook.

And finally, the project which took me over two weeks to complete, I stenciled the entire ceiling in a vine-like pattern to kind of grab the vibe of the trellis in the inspiration room. No more boring ceiling to wake up to in the morning for this gal! I have to say that now I have nothing but complete empathy for good old Michelangelo. To finish off the look Mr. RL put up a pretty crown molding.

I can't tell you how thrilled I am with the way this room turned out! It is so bright and cheery even on gloomy days. It is comfy too and I now actually spend some time in our cozy master suite. 

It took a while to pull the room together but definitely worth the work and the wait.
