Kitchen Hutch in Her Winter Glory

Old man winter finally arrived and has been keeping us pretty dang cold up here in the northeast corridor. Temps for the week are predicted to be in the teens to low twenties at night, and maybe just getting up into the low to mid 30's during the day. We currently have about an 1/2 an inch of snow on the ground with a little more on tap for the rest of this week. With that being said it is certainly time to get cozy inside and settle into the winter.

As you may remember, our kitchen now has a big beautiful hutch which I had painted black just before the holidays. She was a Restore score last spring for only $40.

Here is her "Before" shot...

I had filled her with lots of white ironstone and pretty pops of red and green for the Christmas season. But now it is time to edit out the bright colors and give her a much less vibrant more serene look for winter.

I decided to switch out some of the plain white dishes with my black and white rooster dishes to create more visual interest.

The berry filled Christmas wreaths which hung from the black and white checked ribbon were replaced with simple winter green wreaths.

My pretty measuring spoons purchased in New Orleans a couple years ago remain hanging from the chicken wire door. (I think it is the perfect spot to display them)

A few items are added to the top of the hutch to give her a little more height.

Then the other day while in my local grocery store I was excited to find tulips in the floral section. Tulips are my absolute favorite flower and I just couldn't resist buying a bunch! They add a pretty touch of color to the kitchen island.

So all in all I am absolutely thrilled with how my lovely hutch looks against the long wall in our kitchen. She has added tons of warmth and farmhouse charm to this rather large space. And moving some of my favorite seasonal things around her beautiful shelves has been a lot of fun as well. Ahhh to me she is a true stunner!

How about you? Have you done any post Christmas "Winter" decorating yet?

Wishing you a happy and warm week!

Christmas Hutch in the Kitchen

I know you haven't heard much from me over the last 2 weeks but this is because of a very good reason. Mr. Rosemary Lane and myself have been working really diligently on a few long overdue changes to our kitchen before the holidays get here. Last week we finished up some painting and the addition of some bead board. (And I have to tell you how excited I am about how it all came out!)

Anyhow how last spring I purchased a hutch for our kitchen at ReStore for just $40. Here is what she looked like when I first brought it home in April. (The two front glass doors were removed in order to safely transport her home in my minivan. I decided I liked it open therefore I opted to leave them off.)

She is definitely dated but I love the details of the wood, the wire meshing and her overall look. Plus her size was just perfect for breaking up our rather long kitchen wall.

So after painting the kitchen I finally made the decision on what color to paint my ReStore beauty!

BLACK!

Then I went ahead and dolled her all up for Christmas!

filled her shelves up using pretty white Ironstone and loads of green and red accents. To add some beautiful and natural holiday touches I cut sprigs of arbor vitae from my next door neighbor's ginormous trees (she did give me permission), and paired it with the gorgeous holly sent from my dear friend Judy over at Gold Country Cottage.

This little guy was in my home when I was a little girl. He must be about 40 years old!

And this is my favorite Clothtique Santa! perfect for the kitchen right???

More sprigs and other natural elements were placed on her top along with a few twinkle lights, holly trees, pretty red poinsettias and a little stone house I picked up at TJMaxx a couple years ago.

I think she looks incredibly sophisticated in her new sleek black finish. And she is soooo pretty standing very regal in our kitchen all decked out for Christmas.

I am almost ready to reveal the finished kitchen. Unfortunately while shooting my pics today I managed to have a little accident with my Cannon Rebel and now she is not working. Praying for a Christmas miracle and that I don't have to send it out in to be repaired. I'd hate to not have my camera for the holidays. Keeping my fingers crossed Mr. RL can work a little magic and fix her for me.

In the meantime enjoy the beauty of this special time of year as you prepare for the blessed celebration of Jesus's birth.

Wishing you all Peace Comfort and Joy!

ReStyled Hutch and My Father-in-Law's Painting

The snow is falling outside, again. The kids are off from school today, again. The car has to be cleaned off, again. And the driveway and front walk once again need to be shoveled out.

Sometimes the word  "again" tends to get a bad rap because it is often added to a sentence as an expletive. But in the case of my father-in-law, he was lucky enough to have lived 84 years of "agains". Holidays and anniversaries, the weddings of his nine children and the welcoming addition of his 26 grandchildren. "Dad, we are expecting again!" "Grandpa we want you to read The Night Before Christmas again! Again and again and again he taught his children right from wrong, brought home a paycheck, forgave transgressions of others and was forgiven his own transgressions. But most of all he loved all of his family unconditionally.

He also painted.

I'm not sure how much he painted or where his inspiration for painting came from, but it was something I can only imagine he did in his own quiet time and place.

This painting is one my husband recently inherited. I love the colors of this piece, lots of greens and blues, beautiful colors of nature.

So again I restyled the little white hutch in our living room, only this time I was able to include a very precious treasure left by my father-in-law.

Using a white wood frame, I hung the painting on the wall and then placed its pop-out wood mat with glass in front of the picture as to achieve a layered look. It almost appears to be a picture inside a picture. I also added some pretty blueish green plates to the top shelf of the hutch along with a row of coordinating candles to the bottom shelf...

...plus a pretty basket of faux hydrangeas placed on the floor.

Items I have picked up during my many trips to Home Goods. A place I enjoy shopping time and time again.

Isn't the word AGAIN a rather nice word?
I think so.

Wishing you all another great weekend!

My New Hutch Decked Out in the Colors of Autumn

Back in July I shared with you the fact that this hutch was gifted to me by my dear friend Colene.  Here is what she looked like then.
(The hutch not Colene.)

I decided to keep her white and just clean her up a bit. The glass draw pulls were replaced with shiny silver ones and she was given a fresh coat of paint. I also remove the glass door to expose the interior and to allow in more light.

Then yesterday I  was at the grand opening of a Home Goods not too far from me and I spotted these darling sunflower dishes. I thought they would be perfect for my hutch so I grabbed 6 of them.

In front of the dishes are white wicker embossed cups each carrying a faux pear.

Then some shiny silver items were added to compliment the new silver drawer pulls. A couple of napkins are peeking out from the drawer.

I am absolutely loving this piece in the living room. It will add so much to my year round and holiday decorating, plus who doesn't love extra storage?

Wishing you a wonderful weekend and a very happy first day of Fall to you ALL!

Hutch LOVE

I have to share with you that I am kind of, well a lot of excited because I have a pretty new (old) hutch in my living room to decorate for the fall.

Yipeee!!

So I have been searching the web via Google images to find some inspiration, and boy I don't have to tell you that there is A LOT of inspiration out there. Here are a few that I really loved.

This first one is a stunner I found on Pinterest. This gorgeous hutch display was created by Lucy over at her beautiful blog Craftberry Bush.

Love this fantastic hutch makeover by Meg from the blog from Never a Dull Day.

And how could I possibly not include Yvonne's fabulous hutch from StoneGable.

Or the eye catching blue/white pottery and dishware contrasted with the little orange pumpkins of Debbie's over at Confessions of a Plate Addict.

This next hutch is beautifully rustic with its copper ironstone and pumpkins, and was created by Kimberly over at the blog Serendipity Refined.

OK it's not a blog, but I just had to sneak this one is from CountryLiving.  Beautiful isn't it?

And last but not least, I adore the beautiful colors of autumn as dis[played on this hutch from Custom Comforts

Wow...what a feast for the eyes! My little hutch is just that, very little, but I think with all of this wonderful inspiration I should be able to create something beautiful for our living room to help usher in my favorite season, Autumn!
