School Cafeteria Cookie Recipe

This cookie recipe is the one cookie both my grade school and high school use to make, yes back in the olden days! Every time I smell the aroma of these cookies baking in the oven I am transported right back to the school cafeteria! And they couldn't be more simple to make. This recipe yields 48 yummy cookies!

5 super simple ingredients...

1 lb. butter (or 4 sticks), softened
2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. of good vanilla
3 2/3 cups of all-purpose flour

What you will need to do...

Cream together all ingredients and using a tablespoon, drop onto ungreased cookie sheet. Make sure there is plenty of space between your cookies because they do spread out while baking. Bake at 350 (thank you Judy from Gold Country Cottage!!!) until the edges become golden brown, about 11-14 minutes. And that's it!
It's just too incredibly easy to make these scruptious confections!

Trust me when I say that they are the best sugar cookies ever...and how could they not be with a pound of butter in them right?

Have a great Day!!!

  4. You have to LOVE a recipe that starts with a pound of butter :-) I will definitely try these. Back in the day (mid 70's, lol), my mom worked in my high school cafeteria. In spite of all of the bad press about cafeteria food, they made the BEST baked goods, and my mom brought home the recipes. One of our family's favorites was also a school recipe. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Well I love sugar cookies, so I will definitely give this recipe a try! Thanks so much for sharing! ... And you know, I don't think we ever had cookies in the school cafeteria. We had to buy lunch, no packing allowed. And the only beverage choice was white milk. Cookies would have been a nice treat!
