With perhaps a wee bit more time on your hands now that the summer is over, how about enjoying a light read like Fannie Flaggs Can't Wait to Get to Heaven. This is a charming story of both heaven and earth, and just about everything in between. It is smart, funny, has a little mystery along with some very lovable and edearing characters like Elner Shimfissle.
Elner is a sweet old lady who embarks on a wonderful adventure in heaven after falling out of her tree while picking figs. This throws the entire town of Elmwood Springs Missouri for a loop, as they cannot believe Elner has had such an accident yet again. But is the result of this fall going to be different for Elner? How about for the entire town?
Oh and there's one extra bonus to this book...it includes recipes! All the recipes mentioned in the story like neighbor Dorothy's Heavenly Carmel Cake, are written out at the end of the book right after it's epilogue. Now how fun is that?
Can't Wait to Get to Heaven is a story that will make you stop, think, entice you to smell a few roses, and possibly to even bake a cake!
