Easy No Mess Shelf Liner Pumpkin

I am sure you have seen this everywhere on the web, pumpkins covered in either paper or fabric using DIYers favorite product Mod Podge to adhere the covering to the pumpkin. But what if there was an easier, less messy way to achieve the same adorable result?

The other day I made my weekly pilgrimage to our local TJ Maxx/Home Goods and while I was meandering around I found this Laura Ashley shelf liner in a black and white Damask print. I grabbed 4 rolls for about $12 thinking that I will be inspired and use it at some point in the future. It was such a fabulous price that I just could not pass it by!

The great thing about this project it that the back of the liner is already measured out and is self-adhesive, so there is no need for messy Mod Podge. Also instead of using a real pumpkin like I did last year and eventually having to toss it out, I used a faux pumpkin I bought a few years back at Michael's craft store. Now I can bring it out every year and if I get tired of the print and maybe want to change it up, all I need to do is simply peel the liner off the pumpkin and start over with a new pattern.

What you do is measure out and cut the liner in strips along the lines provided. I used 1 to 1 1/2 inch increments. I think the smaller you go the easier it is to keep the pattern straight. I actually started out using 1 1/2 inch strips, but then went to the 1 inch size as I got closer to completely covering in the pumpkin. After placing a strip on, smooth out any bumps and just trim it at the top and bottom. The best thing about using the liner is that you can easily peel it off if you goof up...and believe me...I goofed up plenty but was always able to go back to fix it!

When the pumpkin was completely covered I hot glued a raffia bow around the top at the stem and where all of the pieces of liner meet. This not only hid where the liner was cut but also added a little more charm to my pumpkin!

I want to see if I can find some more shelf liner that coordinates with the pattern I used here, maybe something more geometric, and create a whole pumpkin patch of my shelf liner pumpkins!

Wishing you all a fabulous weekend!!!
