Well I finally got my tabletop sanded down last Friday and was able to apply one coat of the MinWax in dark maple. What I basically did was brush on MinWax and then wipe it around with a paper towel to avoid any brush strokes. But then I decided to stop there because what I was beginning to get was this really rustic look. I let the top dry for about 36 hours before using it. I thought I'd live with the finish for a few days before I put on a protective matte polyurethane on it. I was so excited about the way it looks now that I went ahead and created this tablescape in my kitchen using my new Roos!
You want to know what it looked like before???
The original color was simply too close to the color of our kitchen cabinets.
Now here is the after...
The darker more uneven color on the tabletop adds some contrast and gives it a nice rustic vibe. Plus I love how it looks with my buffalo check curtains.
The table runner is bamboo, an inexpensive item from good old Walmart...just $7.95! The farm basket, all the plates, and the creamer and sugarier are from Home Goods. The wine glasses I purchased last winter at the Christmas Tree Shop. To see what I did to create the filled farm basket just click here.
Here's to a fabulous fall week!
XO
