Birthday Gift ~ Silk Floral Arrangement ~ Plus Michael's Coupon

Remember when Archie Bunker would call poor Edith a dingbat?  I never really thought of Edith as a dingbat but if there ever was one in the truest sense of the word...well it would be me! One of my dearest friends, Donna, celebrated her birthday at the beginning of January and I completely forgot about it until almost the last day of the dang month. I stink!!! So Monday I met up with her for a little lunch and some light shopping. She told me she recently acquired a small table from her mother-in-law which she decided to put it in the entryway of her home along the stairway wall. All she needed now was a simple arrangement to place on top. We took a look around Pier One Imports but didn't find anything the right size or color. I suggested that we go to Michael's craft store where she could pick out the container and flowers she would like and I could put the arrangement together for her. Then I took it one step further and offered to purchase all the materials needed in addition to doing the arrangement and that would be my "I'm sorry for being so stupidly forgetful and let me make it up to you" birthday present to her.

So this is what a created for my dear friend Donna.

Donna selected this beautiful woven container for her arrangement and decided she wanted to stick with neutral flowers and just add a pop of color. So we chose a dogwood like flower along with a blueish color flower, and used the bright red lily to draw the eye to the arrangement. I ended up not needing the floral foam I purchased, instead I bent up the long wired stems of each flower and then put them into the base. I opened up the arrangement and gave it some interest by bending the flowers in the different directions. Some green moss was also added to the opening of the container and was allowed to spill down over the sides.

I really hope she likes this arrangement from her stinkin' rotten friend. Maybe I can make up a little ground for being such a dingbat about forgetting her birthday!
